LFC & Me: The Back Story
Hi friend, thanks for stopping by. And thanks for your interest in lfc.me. My name is Gary, but my friends call me Jeepers. This is the story of how lfc.me came to be.
An ignorant Yank…
I’ve been playing
soccer football since the age of 5 or 6, but didn’t discover the English game until 2001 or 2002.
For a very short period of time, I was a neutral. I quickly found myself becoming enamored by the tenacity and drive of a young Steven Gerrard.
And then it happened: the promising young Scouser & LFC completed that famous treble-winning season. And I was hooked for life.
And so began my infatuation with Liverpool FC. I purchased a white LFC training jersey to don at practice for my high school soccer team. Though I always trained harder on those days, it didn’t help me make the varsity team until I was a junior (I wasn’t a terrible player; our school was simply a regional powerhouse: In my four years, we reached the state final three times, winning it outright in 2004 as a senior).
Jumping in head-first…
Ten years after discovering my innate love for the club, I started my current job, working for a company that develops premium domain names (currently MD.com). I had absolutely no experience in web development / design, or online marketing in general. At the time, I was studying toward a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ, USA. Relevant.
Logically, three months into my new job, I acquired the LiverpoolFootball.org domain name and started building my first website dedicated to the Reds. Rough around the edges and not-so-easy-on-the-eyes, the project allowed me to dive in head-first to discover the basics of maintaining a website.
Optimizing the user experience…
In 2015, I acquired the lfc.me domain name and decided to transition away from the old site.
The overarching mission is to create a uniquely modern resource for LFC supporters. There are already a plethora of sites churning out the same stuff on transfer rumors, news and the like. So here at lfc.me, I’ve decided on taking a less conventional approach.
